Connect Claude to ConferenceDB

To connect Claude to ConferenceDB, add the free MCP server at https://conferencedatabase.com/api/mcp: one command in Claude Code, or a custom connector in Claude's settings. It needs no account or key. For sales teams and organizers, Claude can then search conferences, read sponsor and exhibitor lists for 3,645 of them, and read published package prices.

Set it up in Claude Code

  1. Add the server. Run this in your project folder:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope project conferencedb https://conferencedatabase.com/api/mcp
You are done when it prints:
Added HTTP MCP server conferencedb with URL: https://conferencedatabase.com/api/mcp to project config
  2. Approve it. The server now shows as pending in claude mcp list. Start claude in that folder and approve it when asked (we did not run that prompt). To keep it to yourself, leave out --scope project. For a one-off run with no prompt, which is what we tested:
    claude -p "<your prompt>" --strict-mcp-config --mcp-config .mcp.json --allowedTools "mcp__conferencedb__*"
  3. Ask a question. Name ConferenceDB in the prompt the first time, so Claude reaches for its tools.

A real prompt and its answer

The prompt:

I run a 500-person fintech conference in Chicago. Which companies should I pitch as sponsors? Give me ten and say why. Use the ConferenceDB tools.

Claude's answer, with seven picks cut where marked:

Ten companies to pitch, ranked by how often they sponsor comparable events. The database has only two Chicago fintech events, too few to show a local pattern, so this list draws on national fintech conferences (67 in the US) and on the MWAA Conference in Chicago (July 2027, 68 sponsors). 1. JPMorgan Chase: Sponsored 4 of the 5 most similar fintech conferences it appears at, including Money20/20 USA. Its large banking footprint makes it a natural fit for a fintech audience. 2. Bank of America: Sponsored at all 3 similar conferences it was listed at, including Money20/20 USA. 3. Visa: Listed at 16 conferences overall and at MWAA Chicago as a General Sponsor. It also appears at Money20/20 USA and Sibos. [seven more picks] Caveats: - The database is company-level only. It shows who sponsors, not what they pay or whether they have budget for Chicago. - MWAA is an M&A conference in the database's fintech category, so its sponsor list leans toward payments.

What Claude can call

ToolWhat it does
search_conferencesSearch conferences
get_conferenceGet a conference
get_conference_sponsorsGet a conference's sponsors and exhibitors
get_company_conferencesGet the conferences a company sponsors or exhibits at
find_sponsors_for_eventFind sponsors for an event

What it cannot do

  • It has no people, emails or phone numbers, so it cannot tell Claude who to write to.
  • It does not know what a company paid. Package prices are what organizers publish.
  • A company lookup returns its most recent 50 events, and a list returns at most 50 companies a call, so ask for the next page on long lists.

How this was tested

We ran the add command and the one-off run above on 2026-11-06 in an empty folder, with Claude Code 2.1.318 and the Claude Haiku 5.5 model, against the live server. The answer is Claude's own wording, cut where marked. Claude wrote its explanations from the tool results and its own knowledge, so check them before you send a pitch. A different model or day can give a different answer.

Tested 2026-11-06. The tool list on this page is read from the server's own catalog.

Questions

Do I need an API key or an account?

No. The server uses no authentication and no session, and it is free.

Can Claude change anything through this connection?

No. All 5 tools are marked read-only. They search and read lists, and they do not write anything.

Will Claude get people's emails from it?

No. The server returns company names, websites, roles and sponsorship levels, plus event dates and published packages. It holds no people, emails or phone numbers.

How do I remove it?

Run claude mcp remove conferencedb --scope project in the same folder. It printed "Removed MCP server conferencedb from project config" in our test.
